On April 24th, the K-2nd grade classes trekked to the Bedford School House, established in 1829. The one-room school, or the "Stone Jug" as it was affectionately called, served generations of village children up until 1912. Hawthorn students got to experience a trip back in time - sitting in original double-seat desks, experiencing a cursive lesson on chalkboards, counting the stars of the American flag from the 1800s, reciting George Washington poetry, and even getting 'punished' with the 'dunce cap!'
