Field Trip to Bush-Holley House
Hawthorn students in Grades 3-9 had the opportunity to visit the Bush-Holley House in Greenwich, CT. The visit employed the American Revolution as a backdrop for learning about the family who lived in this historic home during that time. Students toured all the rooms in the house, which afforded the opportunity to experience life as lived in the 1700s. The docents relayed fascinating stories and asked questions which were met with eager answers. The slave quarters in the attic evoked the most powerful insights from students. The day also included hands-on detective work as students sorted through objects and tools related to the time period and presented their conclusions, using what they had learned in their History classes.
