On Friday, November 1st, students and faculty at Hawthorn celebrated All Saints Day.  Dr. McCleary addressed the school to discuss the origin and significance of this feast day.  Afterwards, students enjoyed athletic contests, egg and spoon relays, sack races, and dodgeball contests on the front lawn, followed by pizza.  In the afternoon, all students participated in the Competition of the Bard.  Judges listened to poetry recitations by representative students from each grade level, and each class performed a musical selection.

In the Kindergarten - Grade 2 age category, 1st grader, Lucrezia Geary, took the prize for her rendition of All Things Bright and Beautiful.  Mrs. Macdonald’s 1st grade class won the blue ribbon for their performance of When Johnny Comes Marching Home.

In the 3rd-5th grade category, the Lower School Girls were awarded 1st prize for their performance of Simple Gifts by Aaron Copland.  Additionally, Oona Archuleta won the top prize for her recitation of The Children’s Hour by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
