On Monday, October 7th, students and faculty at The Hawthorn School celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Dr. McCleary addressed the school to discuss the significance of the day. In celebration, students enjoyed athletic races, contests, tug-of-war, and obstacle courses, followed by pizza lunch and ice cream.. In the afternoon, each class performed a musical selection and students at each grade level recited poetry.
In the Kindergarten - Grade 2 age category, the blue ribbon was awarded to the Kindergarten class for their rendition of “You’re a Grand Old Flag”. 1st grader, Martin Dedvukaj, took the prize for his recitation of “Rain in Summer” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. In the 3rd grade - 5th grade category,, Mr. Edelson’s class was awarded 1st prize for their performance of “Home on the Range”. For poetry, the winner was Camila Horsting for her recitation of “The Walrus and the Carpenter” by Lewis Carroll. In the middle school age group, the 6th-9th grade girls were awarded 1st prize for their performance of “Land of the Silver Birch”, and Andrew Hamborsky’s spirited rendition of “O Captain! My Captain!” by Walt Whitman took 1st prize.
