Girls from the 6th-8th grade class, along with two teachers, Mrs. Montes and Mrs. MacDonald, ventured into the woods at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation for a hiking and camping trip last week.  The patches of rainy weather did not dampen the spirits of these adventurers, who pitched camp, cooked over an open fire, hiked to Leatherman's Cave, and identified species of plants and frogs.  Many of the trails were arrayed with the white blooms of mountain laurel, which added to the beauty of this spring season in nature.  Students even identified a red eft-- the immature salamander which they had learned about in Nature Study, and now had a chance to view up-close.  The girls might say that their biggest highlight was late-night conversation in their tent.  They returned to school dirty and filled with new memories of a shared experience with friends.
